Yoga for people and children with Special Needs

Here is the fantastic work done by Special Yoga. If you thought that yoga was only for circus acrobats, here is the proof that Yoga is completely the opposite. Yoga is meant for everyone, and this include all of us humans. Whatever the condition, the age, the special need or handicap.  A person is not defined by her/his condition, but by her/his heart.

The Special Yoga Foundation is a charity providing yoga as a therapeutic intervention for children with special needs. As well as their one to one sessions, they offer a variety of training, all suitable for occupational therapists, yoga teachers, school teachers, parents, social workers and more.

I've personally followed they workshop and recommend it to anyone interested to work with this group. It was a week of “light bulb” moments. I had originally attended the course to add tools to my therapeutic toolbox. I did not anticipate how profoundly the course would impact on my work as yoga teacher and on myself. The precepts of Special Yoga of humility; generosity; patience; loving kindness; empathy; gratitude; and compassion are really implemented. I learned how to be careful and not afraid. And I am greatful for that.
